American Legion Post 6

The American Legion and its hundreds of veterans have served Chapel Hill since 1919. Their members have included average Joe’s and notable citizens.

Their ranks have and do include doctors, nurses, business owners, teachers, realtors writers, builders, lawyers, state officers, judges, and so much more.

Some returned home to Chapel Hill. Some came to attend the University of North Carolina. Some came for the Navy’s V-2 Program and returned after the war. Some joined family who settled in our town. • Dewey Maine Horner, Sr. – Charter Member, Post 6. Part of the building of the Rosemary Street Post Home and developer of the current Post Home and park site on Legion Road.
